Wool prices still on the rise

THE wool market continued on its merry way this week, with a smaller offering underpinning solid demand.

The Eastern Market Indicator finished the week at $1433 cents per kilogram clean, rising another 5c/kg.

A small catalogue of 22,317 bales was the right recipe for healthy interest.

Finer fleece wools in Melbourne were again the feature of the week, attracting strong competition.

Prices for medium micron wools steadied, also due to a drop in quality in this category.

Better style Merino skirtings from new season shearings performed well again. Vegetable matter content has been slightly higher, however colour and length has improved.

Oddments have followed a similar trend, especially for better quality types.

China ruled the roost with buying as per normal, however India also figured prominently again. Taiwan and Korea chimed in nicely as well.

Next week’s offering is set to rise a little to 31,660 bales.
