Softer tone in wool market

THE mood was more subdued in the wool market this week, with the Eastern Market Indicator drifting 15 cents per kilogram to settle at 1224c/kg clean.

Just over 43,000 bales were put under the hammer, with 7.4 per cent passed-in.

Wools of 19.5 and 21 microns were in the gun on the first day of sales, losing 15-30c/kg, while other types were less affected.

It was a similar story on the second day too, although the decline was less at around 10-20c/kg.

However, Merino skirtings have continued to remain firm, with better styles finishing in positive territory. A shorter supply of skirtings appears to be favouring this sector.

Crossbred wools continued to track sideways, while oddments improved slightly, with some types adding 10c/kg.
