Strong finish to 2011-12 season

THE wool market finished the 2011-12 selling season on a stronger note this week.

The Eastern Market Indicator closed 7 cents per kilogram higher at 1076c/kg clean on the back of the 15c/kg jump last week.

The offering jumped from last week to a little more than 34,000 bales, with bulk class and interlots comprising a significant portion of the catalogue.

The consistent price rises on the last days of the selling season were encouraging.

Finer microns again attracted most competition, with select types fetching up to an extra 30c/kg.

Medium micron wools also recorded rises, albeit not at the level of the finer types.

Skirtings continued their promising trend, posting rises each day and outshining the fleece range. Increases of 20-40c/kg were recorded, similar to the previous week.

It was more of a mixed bag for crossbred wools, although most types added about 5c/kg, while Merino Cardings firmed by a similar amount.

The new selling season commences next week in Melbourne and Sydney, with 33,243 bales rostered for auction.
