Aussie dollar, wool market hold steady

THE wool market steadied this week, following the firm finish to sales last week, with the Eastern Market Indicator closing at 884 cents per kilogram clean - just 1c/kg higher.

The Australian dollar hovered at around the 93 US cent mark during the week.

A total 41,706 bales were put under the hammer, with about 12 per cent of the offering passed-in.

There were some small price increases across most wools, with 17.5-18.5 micron fleece attracting good competition.

Demand for skirtings increased again and oddments also rebounded a little from the dip last week.

Crossbred wools were up and down just slightly, with some small gains and losses for different micron categories.

Buying activity followed its usual pattern, although China was a little quieter this week.

The national offering next week has been set at 42,865 bales.
