Good signs continue
THE eastern market indicator (EMI) finished 5 cents per kilogram higher this week to close at 751c/kg.
Low passed-in rates continued. Of the 55,938 bales offered, only 8.5 per cent was passed in.
Fine wool followed its solid trend, gaining about 10c/kg.
Southern region
Similar to last week, Merino fleece wools finer than 20-micron fetched an extra 10-15c/kg. Remaining microns were solid.
Merino skirtings strengthened overall, with better styled pieces improving about 3 per cent. Again, wools finer than 20-micron performed the best.
Crossbred fleece wools remained solid overall, with some types increasing slightly.
Cardings were slightly weaker again.
Sales will be held in all three centres next week, with 62,219 bales rostered to go under the hammer.
Demand is still sluggish, and so it appears that the lack of wool is driving the market.
A larger offering will test this market, and then it will depend on how close exporters are to filling current orders.
