Market holds firm
THE eastern market indicator strengthened 1 cent per kilogram this week to close at 728c/kg.
Sydney prices were weaker, while Melbourne prices were stronger.
The weaker dollar, combined with a smaller offering, was the main reason for a solid market.
Of the 33,330 bales offered, only 10.6 per cent was passed in.
Most types improved, apart from 19.5 micron and finer fleece wools.
Southern region
Merino fleece wools improved about 5c/kg, except for 19.5 micron and finer types, which fell slightly. Wools in the 20-24 micron categories were the biggest improvers.
Merino skirtings and cardings strengthened about 5c/kg, while crossbred fleece wools gained 5-10c/kg.
About 55,000 bales are rostered for sale next week in Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle.
The market is expected to remain solid.
