Market strengthens slightly
THE eastern market indicator finished 9 cents per kilogram
higher than last week to close at 775c/kg.
The indicator increased 15c/kg on the first day before slipping
6c/kg on Thursday.
Many in the industry were anticipating the weaker Australian
dollar to lift the market higher.
Most gains were in the 19 to 22 micron fleece categories.
Carding wools were the only category to fall for the week.
The gap continues to widen between microns and there are now
significant discounts for poor style wools with high vegetable
matter content.
AWI has just announced that it will run 120 workshops across
Australia to help improve on-farm fibre measurement practices
using the Laserscan and OFDA machines.
If unfamiliar with the testing methods, try to make the effort
to attend as it's growers' money that's paying for the workshops.
Next week the market should remain fairly solid due to the
lower Australian dollar.
