Solid market finish
THE eastern market indicator lifted 14 cents per kilogram at the final sales for the calendar year this week to close at 839c/kg.
This was a very pleasing result because the final sales before Christmas are traditionally subdued.
Not all wool types improved, with broad crossbred fleece struggling.
Of the 65,514 bales of wool offered, 12.5 per cent was passed in.
Southern region
Merino fleece types finer than 19-micron fell 10c/kg, while 22-24 micron types strengthened 10c/kg.
Merino skirtings and cardings remained unchanged.
The next sales will be held week commencing January 8, 2007. The anticipated offering is 55,000-60,000 bales.
With such a solid finish to sales, we should now be well positioned for a good start to the new year.
We wish you all a safe and very enjoyable festive season.
