Steady trend continues
THE eastern market indicator strengthened another cent this week to close at 729c/kg.
A weaker currency helped maintain steady prices. Prices improved yesterday following advice that next week's sales will contain smaller than expected offerings.
Of the 51,983 bales offered, 14.5 per cent was passed in.
Most types remained firm and some improved, with the exception of 18.5 micron and finer fleece wools.
Southern region
Merino fleece wools ranging from 21-23 microns improved about 5c/kg, while 18.5 micron and finer wools drifted about 10c/kg. All remaining microns remained unchanged.
Merino skirtings again strengthened 5-10c/kg, with crossbred fleece wools gaining about 5c/kg and carding wools remaining unchanged.
Only 36,569 bales are rostered for sale next week in Melbourne and Sydney.
Prices should continue to strengthen next week, mainly due to the reduced offering.
