Upward surge continues

THE combination of a small weekly offering and a weakening Australian dollar assisted a jump in prices this week.

The eastern market indicator jumped a further 26 cents per kilogram to close at 925c/kg.

Of the 36,442 bales offered, 10 per cent was passed-in.

All types and categories improved, apart from Merino cardings, which remained firm.

Southern region

All Merino fleece recorded substantial rises, with prices improving 25-45c/kg.

Merino skirtings gained 10-40c/kg, with finer types again showing the biggest improvements.

All crossbred fleece prices climbed, with most microns fetching at least an extra 10c/kg. Cardings remained unchanged.

Sales will again be held in all three centres next week, with 44,000 bales on offer.

Prices should remain steady next week thanks to another small offering.
