Solid trend continues despite larger offerings
THE eastern market indicator (EMI) is now sitting at 844 cents per kilogram, back at the same level of two weeks ago.
The market strengthened 19c/kg for the week, with most improvements recorded on Wednesday and yesterday.
Passed-in rates were still at 8.9 per cent, which appeared to be a little high considering the price lift.
Most types received reasonable price increases, with the exception of broad Merino wools and crossbred types, which fell slightly.
Southern region
Merino fleece types from 18-23 micron jumped by 30-50c/kg.
Merino skirtings fetched about an extra 10c/kg overall, with some longer, better style types gaining up to 30c/kg.
Crossbred fleece wools dipped about 5c/kg, with 27.5 micron and 30 micron types receiving the biggest discounts.
Carding wools continued to rise, with most types climbing about an extra 10c/kg.
Sales will be held in Melbourne, Fremantle and Sydney next week, with 63,000 bales rostered for sale.
After exporters took stock of their positions last week, there was universal recognition that wool supply was still going to be a major concern. This message is also loud and clear overseas, with demand remaining strong.
The solid market activity should continue next week.
