Fine wools continue to improve
THE eastern market indicator (EMI) closed at 745 cents per kilogram this week. This represented a rise of 3c/kg.
Of the 47,376 bales offered, only 10 per cent was passed in.
Results were similar to last week, whereby finer Merino fleece types strengthened.
Southern region
Merino fleece wools broader than 20-micron remained unchanged. Finer wools improved again, with prices rising 5-15c/kg.
Merino skirtings generally remained unchanged, especially in the finer microns.
Crossbred fleece wools were also unchanged, apart from 30-micron and broader types, which dipped slightly.
Carding wools eased a further 5c/kg overall, with crutchings, locks and stains most affected.
Sales will be held in three centres again next week, with Newcastle holding its first sale for the new selling season. A total 54,641 bales are rostered for the week.
More of the same is anticipated for next week, although there will be a big offering of fine wools in Newcastle and this could test the finer market.
