Market shows new price level
THE eastern market indicator (EMI) climbed another 14 cents per kilogram this week to close at 746c/kg.
Although there were good price rises on the first two days, demand stabilised yesterday, which may suggest we have found the new market level.
Of the 70,171 bales offered, only 7.3 per cent was passed in.
Most types received good support apart from 18.5 micron and finer fleece wools in the south.
Newcastle held one of its designated fine wool sales, with wools on offer there receiving premiums of 20-30c/kg on average.
Southern region
Merino fleece wools of 19-21 micron gained about 10c/kg, while 21-22 and 24-26 micron types fetched up to an extra 25c/kg.
Merino skirtings remained fully firm, with premium prices paid for better length and styled wools.
Crossbred fleece was also very solid, with 29-30 micron wools rising about 5c/kg.
Cardings continued to rise, with most types increasing in value by 10-15c/kg.
A big offering is scheduled next week in all three centres, with more than 82,000 bales rostered for sale. This is the largest offering seen for quite some time and should be a real test for the market.
