Market drifts
DESPITE a weakening Australian dollar, the eastern market indicator drifted downward another 7 cents per kilogram this week to close at 744c/kg.
Of the 62,770 bales offered, 15.1 per cent was passed in.
Most falls were recorded in Merino fleece types.
There has been a substantial increase in older wools on offer in recent weeks, as well as high fault wools.
Average, inferior style wools have struggled, while premium types are still selling well. This is a reflection of the wools on offer, whereby the majority of the offering has been average.
Southern Region
Merino fleece of 18-23 microns eased 10-20c/kg, with 19.5 micron wools most affected, falling up to 25c/kg.
Merino skirtings eased slightly, while crossbred fleece strengthened 5-10c/kg. Cardings also strengthened slightly again.
About 70,000 bales are rostered for sale next week in all three centres.
Premium wools are likely to continue to remain solid, while average types are expected to follow the trend.
The market should remain relatively firm next week, although the large offering will test demand.
