Market continues to explode
THE eastern market indicator jumped another 47 cents per kilogram this week to close at 962c/kg.
Again, most industry members didn't quite anticipate this price leap.
Of the 68,932 bales offered, only 4.7 per cent was passed-in. We have had two weeks straight of less than 5pc being passed-in.
All wools received substantial price rises, with 17-18 micron Merino fleece receiving the biggest boost - up to 100c/kg.
Southern region
Merino fleece types jumped 40-100c/kg, with 17-18 micron wools attracting most attention.
Merino skirtings fetched an extra 40c/kg overall, while crossbred fleece wools increased 10-20c/kg, with 30-micron types improving the most.
Carding wools increased another 20c/kg.
Next week's sales will be held in Sydney and Melbourne over two days, with 44,497 bales on offer.
The shortage of wool is obviously a major factor in the market. Prices may finally stabilise next week considering the softening toward the end of sales yesterday, but don't hold your breath though.
