Market settles
FOLLOWING substantial price rises last week, the eastern market indicator settled this week to close 4 cents per kilogram higher at 733c/kg.
Of the 54,484 bales offered, 12.8 per cent was passed in.
Some wool types increased in value, while others lost a little ground.
Southern region
Merino fleece wools improved overall, with the exception of 18.5 micron types which fell slightly.
Wools in the 21-24 micron range received the biggest premiums, with some types gaining up to 15c/kg.
Merino skirtings also improved overall, but only marginally.
Crossbred fleece wools strengthened again, with rises in all microns of 5c/kg. Better crossbred skirtings enjoyed substantial rises. Cardings eased 5-10c/kg.
About 68,000 bales are rostered for sale next week in all three centres, with Melbourne's offering increasing to more than 33,000.
The sudden increase in volumes will test the market again.
Poor types will come under pressure, while good wools will still receive solid support.
