Market improves, especially in south
THE eastern market indicator climbed another 3 cents per kilogram this week to finish at 937c/kg.
It appears the shortage of wool is going to help maintain firm market levels.
Of the 53,045 bales offered, 9 per cent was passed in.
In contrast to last week, Melbourne prices improved more than Sydney this week.
Southern region
Merino fleece types were generally 10c/kg dearer, with 17.5, 21 and 23 micron wools rising 10-15c/kg.
Merino skirtings gained another 10c/kg, while crossbred fleece wools also strengthened, especially 26 and 30 micron types, which jumped by 15c/kg and 25c/kg respectively.
Cardings remained solid overall.
Sales will be held in all three centres again next week, with 55,000 bales rostered to go under the hammer.
Prices are expected to continue to improve next week due to the wool shortage.
