Market recovers

A WEAKENING Australian dollar combined with forecast small offerings next week helped the eastern market indicator regain lost ground from last week.

The indicator clawed back the 4 cents per kilogram lost last week to close at 729c/kg.

Of the 54,187 bales offered, 12 per cent was passed in.

Most types remained solid, with 21-23 micron Merino fleece gaining the most.

Southern region

Merino fleece wools remained firm, with 21-23 micron types fetching an extra 10-15c/kg.

Merino skirtings strengthened overall, with some better broken types increasing 20c/kg.

Crossbred fleece wools gained about 5c/kg. Carding wools recovered on the final sale day after earlier falls to remain unchanged.

A total 75,846 bales are rostered for sale next week in Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle.

Little change is anticipated based on the continued weak Australian dollar.
