EMI still climbing
10 March 2017
Despite an increased national wool offering of 46,000 bales this week, the market yet again continued its upward climb with the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) finishing at 1522 cents per kilogram – another record high.
Fine wool in the 19.5 micron range and finer enjoyed strong buyers support, with increases of 30-60c/kg for the week.
Mid-micron Merino’s in the 21-23 micron range were in less demand and dipped slightly, with losses of 5-15c/kg.
XB wool had another terrific week, with the 25-26 micron range climbing 40c/kg, and the 28-32 micron range increasing 20-30c/kg.
As has been the way since the Christmas recess, the fine wool sector continues to be the most well supported, leading the market and showing no signs of weakness at this stage.
Next week sees 44,000 bales up for sale nationally, with the record prices bringing excess wools onto the market.
