ONE of the largest gatherings of Merino studs in Australia, the South West Slopes Merino Field Day provided a perfect opportunity to catch up with clients who are stud breeders or visitors to the event.

Held at the Harden Showground on Thursday, August 31st, 57 different studs were represented at the event which is forging a reputation as the biggest Merino show in New South Wales.

Exhibiting solo for the first time this year with a view to 2018, the event is likely to be on Quality's radar in the coming years as it continues to grow in stature.

Quality was represented on the day by a core group of their NSW wool team, namely Anthony Windus (Central West Area Wool Manager), Steve Chester (Central West Slopes), Willy Reddington (Northern NSW) and Rob Leak (South West Slopes).

While staff spent plenty of time circulating outside the Quality marquee catching up with clients, there was also much activity inside it with a 'guess the micron, yield and VM' competition creating interest among guests.

The South West Slopes Stud Merino Field Day showcases a range of genetics to studs and commercial producers, with the day consisting of Ram competitions, the Commercial Ewe Competition, a Fashion Parade as well as commercial displays of sheep products, services and woollen apparel.

The event was originally held in Galong, NSW at St Clements Retreat, before moving to the Harden Showground in 2016 due to weather conditions at the original site.
