Charity wool auctions raise $300,000 for Ronald McDonald House
The total contribution from Quality Wool and NSW woolgrowers to Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Westmead has eclipsed $300,000, after the company’s sixth charity wool auction in Melbourne yesterday.
Almost 70 bales were auctioned off to benefit Ronald McDonald House Westmead, reaping $78,600 and pushing
The successful auction was the result of much hard work from the company’s NSW operations manager Chris Scott and his team, sourcing the charity wool from growers in the Riverina and Central and Western regions.
“Everything sold above the valuation,” Mr Windus said.
“A lot of growers donated whole lots to it, which was pretty impressive.
“Many would have donated $2000 of wool or more.”
As they have been in past years, Victorian Wool Processors were once again strong supporters of the auction, snapping up 22 of the bales offered.
RMH Westmead provides a ‘home away from home’ for families with seriously ill children who require vital treatment at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Belinda Woolford, Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney, said the $78,060 raised this year was equivalent to accommodating a seriously ill child and their family at the House for more than a year.
“And for some families, that’s the reality,” she said.
“It is often the case that families need to stay close to the hospital with their child for weeks, months, or even years.
“It wouldn’t be possible to keep the doors open at Ronald McDonald House Westmead without support from corporate and community groups like
“Their contributions help ensure that when children are facing the toughest challenges imaginable, their family can be there alongside them.”
