Donnelly's shine amid quality flocks at Don Brown Memorial
Quality Wool clients Donnelly Pastoral Co have shone amongst a host of high calibre flocks on display at the 39th Don Brown Memorial Merino Ewe Competition, placing third in the judging in Condobolin, NSW on Tuesday.
The St Omer‑based enterprise, represented at the two‑day event by Fred, Colleen and Louise Donnelly, was placed first among the four properties visited on day one of the program on Monday before settling into third position after final judging.
With a 2018 lambing percentage of 67.5 per cent and a culling percentage of 28.5 per cent, the Donnelly flock of Boonoke/Wanganella bloodlines is shorn in March with ewes lambing in April/May.
The flock was classed by well‑known sheep classer and Merino breeding specialist Chris Bowman.
The competition's winning flock belonged to Harold and Phillip Crouch of Karu Pastoral Pty Ltd (Milby), closely followed in second place by last year's winners Allen, Peter and Vicky Stuckey of Murtonga Pastoral (Murtonga).
